White Art Deco Silk Victorian Lampshade with Antique Metal Lace, 1920s Beadwork, and Black Tassels
I created the Cascade Victorian lampshade with the glamour of the 1920s in mind. The distinctive pointed shape and strong symmetry are reminiscent of the Art Deco period. Long black beadwork and slender tassels create the cascading movement that gave the shade its name. This lampshade shape is one of my favorites to work with.
The Cascade lampshade features hand-sewn white silk, antique dot lace in black, antique gold metal lace with a floral Art Deco design, antique metal lace trim, and antique 1920s beadwork. Gold and red metallic trim add cohesion of color throughout the predominantly white, black, and gold colorway.
The long black beaded drops and handmade tassels are an important part of the character of this piece. Their repeated vertical lines gives the shade balance when paried with a floor lamp.
The combination of rare antique materials, Art Deco geometry, and vertical elements give Cascade a character that feels rooted in the 1920s!. Like all Elegance Lamps’ lampshades, Cascade was designed and sewn by hand in my Seattle studio.
